MyExtra Custom Slim Packs Review Opportunity from MomSelect

Gum isn’t just gum anymore. Not only are the textures and flavors of gum changing, now the packaging is getting a makeover too. Take Wrigley’s MyExtra Custom Slim Packs, as an example. For the first time ever Wrigley’s is allowing customer to customize the packaging of their gum!

Yeah for me! As a MomSelect Mom I was given the opportunity to give the  MyExtra Custom Slim Packs a try for free. I was sent a unique code that allowed me to order 5 FREE MyExtra customized packs. Each custom Slim Pack contains 15 sticks of Extra sugar-free gum. The available flavors are: Extra Peppermint, Spearmint and Sweet Watermelon. I chose Spearmint. Any chance Wrigley’s will ever have an authentic juicy mango flavor?

I was able to to choose the theme, add a photo, draft a message and pick a flavor. The code covered all the cost including shipping and I was grateful because it was a bit expensive for gum, in my opinion (almost $30 for 5 pack), but it didn’t take my order very long to arrive, a few days. When I opened up the package that arrived in the mail I was impressed by what I saw. The picture I used to customize my pack came out just like a printed picture. It was not distorted or dull. It looked professional and I thought something like this would make great stocking stuffers, wedding favors, gift basket items. A business could even use these for inexpensive advertisement.

Though, if I had a chance to redo my customized packs again, I’d change a few things. I think I chose the wrong color for the background it made everything a little darker than I hoped. I would also change the font color and style I used. Because of the dark colored background, the dark colored font color and style and the gloss on the picture the message I used is not easy to read unless held at an angle. On the computer preview everything was a bit lighter and easier to see. I’d like the background to look lighter like on the computer.

What I did with with my packs, I tossed one to my husband. I kept one for myself and 3 left for my kids. The picture is one of the family, the kids, myself and my husband. My husband, who loves to show off his family showed it to someone at work the next day. His coworker liked it and told him to show someone else… Later that day my husband called me to tell me that everyone liked it and they wanted to know where I got it from. I told him I’d email him the link  http://www.myextragum.com/. So, I did. i later emailed Megan from MomSelect to let her know and she mentioned she’d email Wrigley.  Isn’t it funny how word of mouth can do so much.

What I didn’t like…. I could make as many themes as I wanted, but I was limited to 5 packs and 1 set = 5 packs. If I wanted to order one of each of the themes I created I would have had to ordered 25 packs of gum.  Instead, I could only use one of the themes I made, but I would have preferred to have had the choice to have ordered only one pack (instead of set) of each of the 5 themes I made for each individual in my family.

The ordering process:  designing and ordering the gum at first was a bit frustrating. At first the page froze. I don’t know if it was my computer or the website. I tried again at a later time and the website was down. I tired once more later time and I was finally able to design and order my gum with ease. I would have liked to have had a little bit more freedom to the placement of the text and the logo.

I also worry about what happens to these customized packages and uncustomized packages when the gum is all gone. Any chance the packages are made of recycled material or that they will be? Could they be recycled? How about joining with Terracycle? Just and eco-friendly thought? Can’t help myself. Otherwise, I thought this was an interesting idea and one that could be very popular for all sorts of celebrations.

Welch’s Blog Tour and Review

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

For the most part, I don’t have trouble feeding my kids healthy meals. They love fruits and vegetables. Occasionally they can get picky, sick or just bored of certain meals. So, tasty juice like grape juice from Welch’s can make a good meal a little sweeter and it’s a healthier alternative to other juices on the market today.

My kids love grape juice. The moment they saw me with the two 10oz   samples of Welch’s grape juice in my hands they immediately said “Oooh grape juice!” and asked me when they would get to have some to drink.

For a little while I debated what to do with my two 10oz samples of grape juice. Did I want to evenly pour it into 3 kids’ cups and give it to my kids to have with their meal? This is how they asked for it. Did I want to let them use it in a craft and paint with the juice? I know my kids would enjoy this too, but wouldn’t that be a waste of very tasty juice? And knowing my kids, they would probably drink it before they even gave themselves a chance to paint with it. Did I want to use the juice to flavor a dish with the juice? I did notice a carrot with grape juice recipe the other day I wanted to try.

What I did with it. I didn’t have all the ingredients for the carrots recipe like I thought so instead I used it on something else. I had a roast I wanted to marinate with just a little bit of the grape juice (like wine). I poured a little of the grape juice into a dish with the roast. I then added parsley and salt, covered the top with foil and baked it. My kids really enjoyed it and they thought it was neat it baked in grape juice.

Then I thought about making homemade play dough and using a little juice to make it a light purple. My kids love homemade play dough and they’ve been begging me to make some for days. Well…. I tried it and it didn’t work. I couldn’t find my play dough recipe and had to search for one online. There were several to choose from and the one I picked resulted in a very sticky mess. The juice didn’t even color it purple.

The good news is that I had enough grape juice left to let my kids give a crafty drink a try. My plan was to divide the rest between the kids and then hand them some colors, a few pencils and blank white paper. I told them to draw or write what they thought about Welch’s grape juice. They could even use it to paint on the paper. They liked the painting idea, but it didn’t work. Is there a trick to painting with the juice? They weren’t to upset by the lack of paint material and decided to just drink it and then write/draw the pictures you see above.

“One easy way to get this recommended daily amount, is to drink 4-oz. (or a 1/2 cup) of Welch’s 100% Grape Juice made with Concord grapes, which offers a full serving of fruit. Best yet, it is has no added sugar. It’s the Concord grape that offers antioxidants along with a mix of plant nutrients called polyphenols, which may benefit heart health!” (Mom Central Newsletter).

My Birthday With The Family and A Touch of Nutella

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A few days ago, March 19th, my husband, children, parents and siblings celebrated my birthday. My husband asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I wanted a relaxing birthday out of the house. I didn’t know what my husband planned to do exactly to celebrate, but I knew whatever he did I would be handing out Nutella gift bags from the Nutella gift box sent to me earlier in the month.

My husband thought a picnic at our nearby park would be a good idea. I agreed and he went all out to give me a great picnic meal. He made about four different salads; fruit salad, cucumber salad, carrot salad, and salad greens. My siblings and parents were invited. I then decided to hand my siblings ( I have 4), my parents and their loved ones, a gift bag while at the park.

My plan was simple. I wasn’t going to talk or make a big fuss about Nutella. The way I see it. If a product is good it should be able to sell itself. The Nutella was there…available and if people wanted some, were curious about it or wanted to know more they could look in their gift bag and ask.

Personally, as a Nutella fan listening to someone trying to convince me of its deliciousness instead of just letting me taste it would have annoyed me like crazy, maybe even put me off from it. Each Nutella gift bag was filled with a Nutella coupon, Nutella spatula, Nutella recipes, Nutella mug. Then for desert we would all eat from the giant Nutella jar with a Nutella spatula or our fingers and eat it with fruit or we could try a recipe if interested.

Unfortunately, because of some miscommunication only one of my sisters and her son could show up. My kids and my nephew played together and my sister, husband and I just sat and talked while watching my two-year old. We plan to leave at 6, but the park ranger told us it closed at 5. it was already 5. We were, surprised but gathered our things and called it a day. Before my sister left though I grabbed one of the bags and went ahead and gave her a Nutella gift bag. As I gave her her bag my mom gave her a call and before I knew it people were coming over to my messy house. Oh! how embarrassing.

On the way home my husband and I made plans to quickly clean the house. As we pulled into the driveway we noticed my sister (the same one from the park) drive in behind us. Plans changed. My parents arrived soon after and so did my little sister and her husband. My husband gave anyone who was hungry picnic leftovers and then we all had a piece of peach cobbler. I wanted peach cobbler instead of cake this year and so he made one from scratch. He loves me.

Soon after or during (I can’t recall) I handed everyone their gift bag. My dad made a comment that it was my birthday and they should be giving me gifts. I smiled and pointed out that in some cultures the birthday person gives the people she loves a gift. I then added, “Besides, it was free. I didn’t spend a dime. It was sent to me to hand out and talk about”. He smiled and then proceeded to look in his bag. Several members of my family liked the Nutella mugs, but when first opening the box were a little disappointed because they thought it was an entire jar of Nutella. They weren’t disappointed too long and they did enjoy their Nutella samples.

I planned to surprise them with the big jar, but was soon distracted by my son who suddenly had a 102 fever. How could he come down with a fever so quickly and the only earlier symptom was a runny nose. He was playing like a normal kid at the park. After a few days of evening fevers I had to take him to the doctor again. This is the 3 or 4th time in the past two months. The doctor thinks it might be allergies.

Back to the party: two of my siblings were unable to visit me that day, but I still have their gift bag and the Nutella Jar. It’s a good thing too because I ran out of the Nutella samples. I went ahead and handed out the rest of the chocolate samples to my parents before they left that Saturday evening. I knew my mom and dad had wanted more chocolate samples to enjoy at home and I wasn’t about to deny them any. I also gave them more coupons.

Disclosure: Nutella was sent to me via MommyParties and Nutella free for my blog post and Nutella party experience. My opinions are my own.

Pretty Neat Review and Giveaway

Giveaway Closed

Winner: No one entered :(

Recently, I’ve become embarrassingly unorganized. I’m afraid to let people come over to my house, see the inside of my vehicle or even glance into my purse. I am even beginning to fall behind on projects and I’m afraid to take on new projects. So it was pretty much out of need that I volunteered to write a review on Pretty Neat by Alicia Rockmore and Sarah Welch.

Pretty Neat is a laid back how-to get organized guide with a collection of easy going tips from a variety of women who have a variety of perfect and no so perfect organization tips. I found the easy going, easy read book to be inspiring and have actually begun to try some of the advice provided in the book to see what suits my life style best. For example, I’ve begun to look at Google Calendar to keep my husband and I on schedule in our ever-increasing busy life. I’ve struggled a lot with delegation. I think this has been one of my reasons for my organization down fall. Pretty Neat has given me an insight to what kind of delegator I am and how I can work on becoming a better one. The Learn To Just Say No chapter gave me the courage to politely say no, “I can’t at the moment”, to someone asking me to add another girl to my already large troop. I still felt an obligation to explain myself, but I was able to explain myself in such a way it gave her no room to try to change my mind. She did not try. In fact, she didn’t reply at all.

Thanks to the book I also came to terms (I was in denial) that my office is my biggest stressor. I work from home and my office (once a small dining/breakfast room) is right next to the living room. There are no doors or walls to hide my mess and keep my kids and husband out. This means more than one thing: my messy office can be seen easily and right away by anyone who comes to my house. It also means it is nearly impossible to keep my kids and hubby out of my office. So my mess is jut made worse by their mess. Any time I’ve panned to move my office out of sight the plan has fallen through, besides I’d still have the mess and would still need to figure out a way to clean it. The good news is that I have found that my mess isn’t as big as I make it out to be. It looks terrible, but it’s just a matter of tackling it one box or pile at a time.

“And unless you have enough time to make organization a full-time job, you’ll need to embrace shortcuts and imperfect approaches to getting organized” (pg 3).

I feel there is too much emphasis on technology. I did notice the paper and pen options and appreciate them, but felt there wasn’t enough. I know technology has become an extremely important part of our society (my job would be a lot more difficult without technology), but I fear depending on technology too much or worse, others depending on everyone having access to technology may lead to chaos in the future, such as during a blackout. Also, not everyone has the convenience of technology. There are many of us out there without cell phones or even without computers. My husband and I don’t have cell phones anymore and our computers stay home. Cell phones are not in our budget right now. Truth be told, except for emergencies we also don’t really need cell phones. When we had cell phones people expected (demanded us) to be at their beck and call. Now we are in control of when and whom we answer to. In the future we may cut off our landline and switch to cell phones, but unless it’s free text messaging and Internet will probably not be part of our cell phone package.

In addition, my computer crashed this week. Right now, I am typing my review on my husband computer. He uses it for work and school. Until my computer is repaired we will have to work on a schedule just to share this thing. So on that note, I felt my family’s lack of technology kept me from connecting completely with this book. I felt the book was written more for super busy metropolitan women. This is not a bad thing, it just that personally I would have liked perspectives from men and women of all types with or without technology.

My future organization goals: declutter (clothes to be donated to Japan), make a family schedule, tackle my office one pile or box at a time, delegate (with positive feedback and accept my way is not the only way) once I feel less overwhelmed get back to cooking easy healthy home cooked meals and living my eco-friendly ways.

Giveaway: One of my lucky readers will receive a copy of Pretty Neat. In addition one reader from across all participating blogs for this book campaign will receive a $200 gift card plus a selection of Buttoned Up products (ARV: $50). US only, please. The giveaway deadline is March 21st 2011. To win the book leave comment below about any of your organization stories. Here are a few suggestions for creative giveaway entries:

*Share the area of her home or life that has become the biggest source of organizational stress.

*Share one tip for how to delegate an organizational task inside her home.

* Confess a funny story about either an area that has become out of control inside her home or a way in which she has given up organizing and covered up instead (i.e. shoving items under the bed, designating one room or closet as the catch-all, etc.).

Big G Hot Wheels Review and Giveaway

**This giveaway is now closed**

The winner is #14 Lesley M.

I don’t often give my kids kid cereal for breakfast. Kid cereals are more often than not high in sugar and low in nutrition. It isn’t healthy for their little minds and bodies to eat daily for breakfast, but every now and then, on the weekends or as a snack I treat them (myself too) to a bit of kids cereals and they love it.

Recently I had the opportunity to treat my kids to a variety of Big G cereals. Why? Recently Big G cereals teamed up with Hot Wheels® and since late January (24th) there has been a Hot Wheels® pullback racer inside each participating cereal box. “Starting January 24th, inside each participating cereal box (Cheerios® 14 oz, Cinnamon Toast Crunch® 17 oz, Lucky Charms® 16 oz, Reese´s Puffs® 18 oz, and Cookie Crisp® 15.6 oz), you´ll be able to “gas and go” with one of four custom-designed collectable Hot Wheels® pullback racers. Each car contains a code to unlock an exciting online racing game” (according to the My Blog Spark campaign letter. Bloggers here and there get to taste, review and let the world know about it.

What I received: a “Big G Hot Wheels” gift pack which includes 5 boxes of participating Big G cereals (the same five listed in the quote above), all with collectible Hot Wheels® pullback racers. These are all cereals I loved as a child, but like I mentioned in the intro healthier than they use to be: more whole grains, less sugar and so on.

My review: I couldn’t just treat my kids to the cereal I had to taste it myself too. I am writing a review after all. I noticed right away that the cereals don’t taste as sweet as they use too. As a mom I was very happy about that, but as a kid at heart, I missed that super sweet taste. Still, it was a tasty treat and I know my kids enjoyed it. I also noticed that Big G cereals are a bit more nutritious than they use to be. That’s a good thing too.

I enjoyed opening the boxes and finding a prize. Kids and most adults I know love to find prizes in their cereal box. I’m glad prizes are no longer inside the cereal itself, like they use be. Someone’s nasty hand and arm digging through a box of cereal and spilling it everywhere cannot be healthy and isn’t appetizing.  Prizes are now in between the box and plastic bag. The Hot Wheels were wrapped in plastic with the paper code inside.

Hot Wheel cars are much lighter now than they use to be. I have a toddler that loves to throw things so this is is a good thing. The code…I felt no use for it. I checked it out on-line and realized it was for online car racing games. Online games don’t appeal to me much. Still I gave it a try. I noticed the games were very limiting and didn’t like it. Every car I chose was locked up or something else was. I’d like to be able to just start playing a game for once. Am I old for wanting things less complicated. I was locked out of almost everything. I know these games are for kids, but like I mentioned I’m writing the review, besides I don’t let my young kids online to play games very often and I felt this was too complicated for them anyhow. However, my kids did enjoy playing with the cars and I know a lot of car racing fans that would like this kind of thing.

My favorite Big G cereal as a child and adult is today is Lucky Charms.

The Green in me would love it if Big G and Hot Wheels were a little more eco-friendly too.

The giveaway: One of my lucky readers will win an identical gift pack. The giveaway deadline is March 31st, 2011.  To win leave a comment below with the name of your favorite Big G cereal, which Big G cereal is their favorite. What are your kids’ favorite Big G cereals? XIGO Review and Giveaway

Giveaway Closed:
The Winner is Michele P.

A little more than a month ago a box of Xigo Maximum Defense arrived in my mailbox to use and review. Xigo is to be taken as soon as you start feeling symptoms of illness. Boy, did it arrive just in time. 4 of the 5 of us were already sick when it arrived. Yep, I was the fifth. Next!

“Xigo Health is a family-focused company that has created a line of products designed to boost your immune system. From daily doses to maximum defense when your body needs it most, Xigo products make the immune system faster, stronger and smarter by detecting challenges in the body, defending against them and deterring repeat offenders. And setting them apart from other similar remedies on the market, Xigo Health products are all-natural and safe for everyday consumption.”

My review: Like I mentioned earlier my Xigo supply came just in time. Right about the time it arrived my kids and husband had been battling a hard cold (not the flu). I knew I would be next. Under the stress I was under I’d get it the worse; I was sure of it. Still I did what I could to avoid it. I washed my hands, drank lots of water and this time I also had a few Xigo whenever I felt even the slightest cold coming on to help me fight the fight.

Did it work? So far, I feel good. It has been a few weeks since the package arrived and the hard cold has hit my home and I feel fine, well… I’m still stressed. Is it a coincidence? Or is Xigo onto something here? The only way for me to know for sure if it really helps is if it helps me fight off the next big cold I’m sure is headed towards my house in about 2-3 months. Then we shall see.

By the way I love chewable tablets. I’m like a kid that way. So, I really liked that Xigo comes in chewable orange flavored tablets. It makes it easy to take with me and use anywhere I go.

Interesting facts: How is XIGO pronounced? It is pronounced, “chee-go”. What special ingredients does Xigo have in it to help the immune system fight off sickness? It has:
1. Beta glucans, which helps the body to detect harmful viruses,
2. L-gkutamine , an amino acid that fuels immune cells to better defend the body from sickness,
3. Lactoferrin, a complex protein that does some complicated stuff with memory and quick response to keep sickness away.

The giveaway: It is a box of Xigo Maximum Immune Defense for one of my lucky readers to try. To win visit http://www.xigohealth.com/
And then come back here and tell me what other product you are interested in. The giveaway deadline is March 15th, 2011. You can get extra entries for subscribing via email, posting the giveaway on twitter, Facebook and any other social network. Make sure to let me know in the comments. I will choose the winner using Random.org. Please make sure your email is on your profile or leave it in your comment. If you win and I cannot contact you then the prize goes to the next person. Pure Romance Spices Up My Valentine’s Day Review and Giveaway

******Giveaway Extension: Monday the 28th. Same rules apply. This is an expensive prize.******

The review and post I’m about to post isn’t my typical type of post. It is of more intimate nature. In celebration of love, valentines and romance I decided the change would be fun and guess what? It was, thanks to Pure Romance and Global Influence.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The products came in the mail discretely. For the exception of the title of the company above the mailing addresses in small font no one but the mailman knew what kind of package this was. This is comforting for me to know because I have nosy (but sweet and helpful) neighbors.

First impression: I opened up the brown box the package came in. Right away I was attracted to the pink and black colors of the gift box and gift bag. I wanted to open it up right away to see what is inside, but because my husband and I have been talking for months about introducing pleasure products into our sex life I gave it a second thought and waited for him to come home, study for school and then when he was exhausted show it to him.

As he opened up the package I snapped the pictures you see in the gallery above. Take a look at the double meaning names on the products. My husband got a good laugh from this. He loved the names. He was also amazed and excited that we received so much to review. You should have seen his face. Sexy wheels were turning in his head almost immediately. The only thing he was disappointed in was that there was nothing “guy specific” in the package. He got over it quick though, because well… he’s a guy.

Unfortunately, we didn’t try the products that night. It was 1 in the morning and we had to be up at 7 in the morning. So we planned for Friday after the kids went to bed. I provided the items. His job was to make shift the bedroom.

As I began to put the items away in the box, out of sight and reach from our kids, I noticed the unknotted silky pink ribbon and as if we can read each other’s thoughts my husband said, “Don’t get rid of it. Hold on to it.” I giggled.

What we got? A lot. 1. Just Like Me and Intimate Natural Lubrication. 2. 7th Heaven Bullet. It has seven speeds. We tested out all the speeds. 3. Coochy Variety Pack . 4. Come Clean Spray. 5. Dust me Pink. 6. Extcee – Strawberry scented and flavored arousal cream. This is surprisingly minty. I thought maybe even too minty, but also really liked how minty it could be. 7. Mini Nights of Passion (used the warming lubricant on him).

The weekend: At the risk of giving TMI and disgusting those few family members and/or friends who actually visit and read my online ramblings (thank you for your support and I’m so sorry for the sudden disgust) we couldn’t wait until Friday. So we didn’t. Just the idea of using these products excited us a lot. Like I mentioned earlier, we had already discussed on numerous occasions giving pleasure toys a try, but never really got around to trying any. We didn’t know where to start or what to try and because pleasure toys and accessories are not always affordable we were afraid of wasting money on something we wouldn’t like. This campaign gave us the opportunity to give it a try. We haven’t had a chance to try all the products yet, but so far what was have tried was better than we expected it to be. Our thoughts… in my husband’s words, “Wow!” What did I think? “Toys are fun!” And that is all I’m going to say about that.

As always I’d like to see a eco-friendly product everywhere so I encourage Pure Romance to open up a green line as well as eco-conscious business (green packaging, products in recycled bottles, etc.) for want to be treehuggers like my husband and I. There are many of us out there. I’d also love to see spill proof lubricants and oils. My husband can be a bit clumsy with these things as he is paying more attention to other more important things (me) instead of where he sets down the lubricant leaving an expensive spill wherever he places it.

The giveaway: Pure romance is offering 6 pure romance gifts (Mini Nights of PassionAURAEx-T-CeeEscapeSENSATIONSSweet Seduction). The giveaway deadline is Feb. 19th, 2011. To win visit Pure Romance. Then leave me a comment letting me know what product you are interested in. You can get extra entries for following us through GFC or Subscribing via email. Make sure to let me know in the comments. I will choose the winner using Random.org. Please make sure your email is on your profile or leave it in your comment. If you win and I cannot contact you then the prize goes to the next person. ReUsies Review and Giveaway

*Now Closed*

The winner is: http://canelaajena.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/reusies-giveaway-winner/

To cut cost and to reduce waste I like to use reusable containers or Baggies to store my daughters’ lunch food inside their lunchboxes, but many containers do not fit well in their narrow lunchboxes. Luckily, I came across ReUsies L.L. C reusable sandwich bags. I was sent a couple of Reusies to test and review.

ReUsies Snack & Sandwich Bags are a USA made (Seattle, Washington) eco-friendly product alternative to plastic sandwich Baggies. They can be used to fit snacks or sandwiches. They are lined with 100% cotton and leak-resistant nylon (BPA, Lead and Phthalate free) and are also secured with Velcro® closures.

What I received: a 2-pack, which includes 1 snack and 1 sandwich bag. As you can see in the pictures above, my sandwiches ReUsies are orange and blue. The little critters you see on the flap are little orange crabs. I’ll admit the design isn’t my favorite design compared to the other designs available on the ReUsies website, but it is cute.

The test: will the food fall out of my ReUsies? No. The Velcro is secure and the flap provides good coverage. In addition the ReUsies are easy to wash. I just turn them inside out and wipe clean with soap and water. I haven’t had to do this yet, but they can also be machine washed and dried or washed in the dishwasher.

My large ReUsies can easily fit a thin or stackable sandwich. Both ReUsies can fit sliced fruit, cheese, chips, crackers and so on.

Giveaway: Get two too. The winner gets to choose 3 pattern choices and ReUsies will send what is readily available. The giveaway ends February 15. To win visit the ReUsies website and let us know which design you prefer. Extra points for following, tweeting, posting on facebook or linking somewhere else. Please leave link in the comment. I will choose the winner using Random.org. Please make sure your email is on your profile or leave it in your comment. If you win and I cannot contact you then the prize goes to the next person. Please respond within 48 hours.
